The People

Marc Leveille (Owner/Inventor) - Marc hails from Earlton, a small town in Northern Ontario. Sports have always been a part of the Leveille’s lifestyle. His Grandfather, Wilf Paiement Sr., was the North American Arm Wrestling Champion and his uncle Wilf Paiement Jr. wore number 99 for the Toronto Maple Leafs and enjoyed 15 seasons in the NHL. Wilf would often bring Marc along to his games; Marc still tells stories about how much fun it was to hang with his Uncle and ultimately the most prestigious teams in Hockey. It was here that Marc first saw how the professional hockey players would toil endlessly with their equipment in the locker room; looking for any advantage that they can get. Always one to enjoy tinkering, Marc began to do the same with his Hockey and Lacrosse equipment.

As Marc grew, so did his passion for Lacrosse, fishing and working with wood. It’s Marc’s ‘jigs’ made from wood that allow for MM to be multi colored. He has played, coached, trained and even served as the Referee and Referee an Chief. Marc’s entire family has counted endless hours traveling, playing, organizing and watching Lacrosse. While the name ‘Marc’ has been enjoying some recent popularity, if you ever come to these parts, you’re best of to ask for “Doc Lacrosse”; that’s what most people around here know him as.

Now the Leveille’s reside in Burlington, Ontario. His mother and father, Jeannie and Tony, his daughter Nicole and son Joel all live within 2 chucks with a long pole. Marc lives with his wife Doreen and their two Boxers Molly and Bella.

Joel Leveille (Stick Surgeon) – Joel is a stick stringer to the stars. Joel has been involved in Lacrosse for many years also. Currently he plays with Burlington Chiefs (Sr.) Field Lacrosse and played his Junior in Oakville and Burlington. Considered the best stringer in the game Joel is on the speed dial for many of todays top ranked Pros.

Tim Weston (Owner/CP) – Tim has a passion for Lacrosse, business and animals. He played his Junior with the Burlington Chiefs and some Senior in Peterborough. He attended Notre Dame H.S. In Wilcox, Saskatchewan (87-91) and New England College (92-96) where he played Lacrosse, Hockey and Rugby. He was elected captain of the Lacrosse Team during his Junior and Senior year; amassing (72G, 22A) as a Junior and (50G, 55A) as a Senior. While at NEC he earned a Degree in Business Administration and was a member of SAB Fraternity. Tim has been Vegetarian for 20 years strong.

Pervious to BCLaX Tim worked with his father Ian at Weston Amenity Service (WAS). WAS is the first company to put a coffee maker inside a hotel room (1989) and service hotels with in-room coffee; in all of North America. While today it’s almost impossible to find a hotel room without a coffee brewer; at the time hotels thought the idea was ridicules. Ian, Tim's father and business mentor pushed this idea for 2 years before making his first sale. In fact, during those first 2 years at the annual ‘Hotel and Restaurant Show’ Ian’s booth was ranked DEAD LAST; the following year the organizers of the show no longer ranked booths. WAS also began to buy packaging equipment and currently does jobs for the hotel industry, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, The Red Cross, Stanford Pens and others.

The History of MM

As a player, Marc Leveille first began working on sticks over 35 years ago. He had a knack that soon caught the eyes of his teammates and before long, he was stringing their sticks.

Marc was stringing sticks long before the mass production of the "Tupperware" heads that came in the early 80's. What they lacked in “woody” tradition, they made up for in practicality.

His skills as a stick-stringer evolved, and his passion for the art set fire. His methods and innovations were heralded throughout Southern Ontario, a hotbed of Canadian Lacrosse.

With his skill in high demand, Marc began to compile mass amounts of mesh. Marc always felt that the mesh available could be improved. Having excess, he began to experiment, altering its texture and feel. This was the beginning of Marc Mesh™.

Marc Mesh™ is crafted by hand. The First Nations believed that the pocket was the heart and soul of the stick. They also strongly believe that in order for your stick to develop a soul the stick must be made by hand. Each Marc Mesh™ is buttered using Marc’s very own method; individually by hand of course.

In the spirit of family, Marc kept his secrets for stringing and mesh-culturing in the tribe, teaching his son Joel everything he knows. In a classic case of pupil rising above mentor, Joel has begun giving his father a run for his money as Southern Ontario’s top stick doctor.

Blue Collar Lacrosse's Humble Beginings

In the summer of 2007, Marc and Tim were coaching a youth Field Lacrosse Team. Marc had tried interesting some of the established stick manufacturers with his idea; however they just weren’t picking up what Marc was putting down. Tim was no stranger to great ideas getting overlooked by ‘Big Business’ and was a loyal advocate of Marc’s mesh.

In August 2007, Marc approached Tim about starting a Lacrosse company. The goal was to provide high end Lacrosse Heads that were truly “ready for battle”. They would break in fast, last longer and weren’t afraid to play in ‘weather games’. In February of 2008 Blue Collar Lacrosse Inc. was registered as a business and had its first sale of Marc Mesh to a retail store that April.

Over the past 3 years Marc Mesh has EXPOLDED. It is available in over 80 store locations in North America, with retailers in 6 Provinces and 16 States. Some Pro teams in Field and BoX have upwards of 90% of their roster using it and all 4 teams at the Final Four (2009) had placed team orders and/or sent us stick heads for stringing. No other product in the history of Lacrosse has enjoyed this unrivaled success.

The biggest difference between Marc Mesh™ and the regular urethane coated "hard" mesh is this: urethane is meant to coat ropes with a thin, non-porous layer that keeps water out. It is designed not to break down. When it finally does, little cracks form in the shell defeating the urethane’s original purpose of weatherproofing the mesh. Mesh Butter on the other hand quickly breaks into tiny fragments that allow the mesh to quickly form a pocket. Rather than coating the outside, Mesh Butter is applied right into the fibers of the Nylon; hence water has no place to go.
